Cords: Are They the New Jeans?

Do you sometimes stare into your closet at all the 45638 pairs of jeans you own (time to clean out obvi) and say to yourself, Boring. Isn't there anything else to wear besides jeans?

The answer is not yoga pants. If that's what you thought first, we're concerned. Tina is answering this question and showing you how to wear cords, the right way.

Hi lovely ladies! Yes, I love cords. I wear them on the weekends and sometimes to Preds game (that's our hockey team, ya know). They are just so comfy and stretchy! Which is exactly the problem wearing cords presents. They can be sadly frumpy and give you saggy bottom syndrome if you're not wearing the right ones with the right things. So here are my thoughts on how to wear cords and look chic and stylish.

1. White cords can be somewhat dressy.

Especially bootcut cords. I included winter white and some bootcut cords in lots of colors in my November Must-Haves list. (Insiders, shop them here. I just added some new cords and tops to the collection for you to shop, including plus size cords and tops.)

If you can't deal with white on white in the winter, I wish you would face your fears. It's so elegant when you want to be a bit dressier, but hey I get it. You're afraid of white. Just add a pop of color to the mix, and I'd be reeeeally happy if that pop were more of a suggestion of color like grey or camel or blush. To keep the elegance vibe going.

2. Skinny cords are fun too, and a bit more casual.

You know my rule, right? Fitted on one half of your body means looser on the other half. Balance. Which reminds me of another great credo for dressing well, "good dressing is a game of millimeters."

If you wear flats, they look great with skinny pants. But you can wear flats with bootcut cords and jeans and dress pants if they are pointy-toe or almond toe. No round toe flats, or any kind of round toe shoe for that matter. You'll look all stubby at your feet. And like an adult wearing child shoes.

3. I hike in cords. I go to movies in cords.

I go to the arena to watch the Preds in cords. I might even wear cords on Thanksgiving in the mountains with my family.

You want your cords to have no more than 3% stretch in them. Any more will give you saggy bottom within minutes of wearing. So unattractive. You also want to buy your cords pretty tight, because they give a lot more than your jeans do. Trust me on this. You must.

Insiders, don't forget you can shop our collection of cords (new styles added) and see how I styled them in this collection. And if you're not a member, why don't you try if for free for 5 days and take a peek inside! (A little teaser, I found some hiking boots like these you're gonna love...stay tuned for their unveiling!)

Thanks for reading and all the best,

Tina
