That vest you bought last fall? It's so good for spring. But we're going to give it a spring twist.

Last fall we were wearing our vests over plaid flannels and jeans. Now wear it with a spring blouse and one of your skirts.

None of my blues match. But that's the whole point! Instead of buying one piece for every other piece in your closet, make them work together. This is the secret of having fewer clothes but multiple outfits. And tone-on-tone is how you get seemingly disparate pieces to like each other: all shades in the same family play well together.

And when you don't know what shoe to wear, throw on a black patent heel or flat. Patent has traditionally been a spring leather, and, yep, now it's considered year-round.

Now, after lunch, when the sun is out and you're walking around for a bit, lose your vest and let the sun warm your face.

I have on a cami under my blouse - you do know you're supposed to wear camis under everything, right? - not only does it make the placket fall smooth, and the blouse stays tucked in, but it adds a little layer of warmth, too.

Why so much blue? It says spring and it looks good on blondes and brunettes, and even redheads. And you probably have some shades of blue in your closet already.

So, yes, we know vests work in spring, and so does leather. Here, I'm wearing my fave faux leather/ suede pants I wore all winter with oversized sweaters and booties. Catch my post on more ways to wear leather this spring here.

Gingham is another spring calling card. So I have it layered under cashmere, that I can peel off as it gets warmer throughout the day. I prefer v-neck sweaters, but if I'm wearing a crew-neck, you'll see me cutting the neckline with a collar or a big necklace.

For a casual vibe, and to keep yourself from looking so buttoned up, let the shirttail of your blouse peek out from under the sweater, and be sure to show a little cuff at your wrists.

And I can't get enough of the sneaker, Converse in this case. Wear little ankle socks if your feet are cold in the morning when you leave your house.

When it feels like a real spring day later in the afternoon, throw that sweater around your shoulders Hamptons-style. And pop your collar just so.

Ahhhh, it feels like spring! At least until tomorrow morning.
