What To Wear Thanksgiving

Tina, here.

I love Thanksgiving week! Don't you? Whether you and yours cook in, dine out, wear jeans or dresses and suits, I'm showing you what to wear because one thing is certain, we'd all rather be spending our time loving up on our families and eating than staring into the closet wringing our hands.

Here, my beauties, is what to wear Thanksgiving.

1. A Dressy Thanksgiving

What To Wear Thanksgiving

First of all, show up with something for your hosts. An orchid is a divine choice because they don't smell, they are gloriously pretty and you can get one at your grocery store for under $20.

If you're not sure what everyone else is wearing but you're pretty sure it's a classy sit down meal, wear a dress or a dress-equivalent. Always better to be overdressed than underdressed. Always. It's not about dressing to impress, it's about respecting your hosts.

I love a good sweater dress or knit dress like this one. Mine is Donna Karan from a discount store in Nashville, but I've put several in the November Style Vault Style Notes that all have either free shipping and/or next day shipping. Knit dresses travel well, and they are chameleons: dress them up or down with your accessories.

If you can, wear a heel. If you can't, wear an almond toe flat.

2. A Dressy Casual Thanksgiving

It's perfectly fine to wear pants to a dressy casual event, but not jeans. Jeans are casual, not dressy, at least not on a holiday. I like suede because it's the perfect mix of dressy and casual.

Another great host gift is a bottle of wine or champagne with a note that says Feel free to relax and enjoy this after your guests have gone. so they know you don't expect them to serve it right then and there. There are great non-alcoholic alternatives like gourmet hot cocoa or spiced tea mixes.

What To Wear Thanskgiving

Grey and camel is one of my most favorite color combinations for fall and winter. I've got on a jacket from J.McLaughlin that is featured in November's Style Vault with a 20% discount code for members. Spend $8 to save $45 - now that's smart shopping! It has worked on everyone from a size 0 Petite to a Curvy Women's size. It's the perfect topper - I've been wearing mine constantly with jeans, over dresses, to hockey games and nice dinners. It's the kind of jacket you can leave on inside without anyone asking you for your coat. It's that stylish.

Here you can see the reverse side with the leather detailing. This jacket comes in charcoal grey and black. For the price, versatility and style, it's easily been one of the most popular items we've ever featured in the Style Vault. Members log in here to access the secret code. Well worth the $8 membership fee to save $45 on this beauty! (I have it in both colors!). Thank you J. McLaughlin for the discount for our members!

What To Wear Thaksgiving

I love a belted jacket. When you want to emphasize your waist or create shape in your midsection, grab a belt. The shorter your torso, the narrower the belt.

Pearls are a classic during the holidays. With a belt, I usually will keep everything else pretty simple when it comes to accessorizing.

3. A Casual Thanksgiving

Jeans are perfectly acceptable for a casual Thanksgiving. But make it festive. Add a fun shoe! Also, notice how the J. McLaughlin jacket pairs great with jeans, too. And you gotta love those pockets.

What To Wear Thanksgiving

My latest obsession has been plaid shoes. I can't explain it. Maybe because I don't wear a lot of plaid clothing (it can be really hard to pull off, I did a post on how to wear plaid here). Like with many trends, a little goes a long way, and the best way to wear plaid might be in bite sizes like a pair of heels or flats. I believe plaid heels will stand the test of trends. Plus, I'm kinda over all the sparkly shoes.

What To Wear Thanksgiving

I always wear my wishbone necklace on Thanksgiving. That grouping of bangles - each and every one was a gift. How special is that!
