What To Wear Traveling Over The Holiday Weekend

Tina, here.

My tender Tennessee Christmas will have to wait til next year. This holiday I am traveling, along with my brothers, sister-in-law, niece and nephews, to San Francisco to spend it with my sister and four California nieces. It will be totally worth it. If you are traveling, even for a 20 minute car ride to the in-laws' house, what you wear is important. No ugly sweaters and definitely no yoga pants. If you could give me this for Christmas, your pledge not to wear either, I would consider myself blessed.

Here, beauties, is what to wear traveling over the holiday weekend.

1. No yoga pants. Ever.

Please don't be like the high school and college kids who wear either their PE clothes or jammies to the airport. And teach these girls that they are worth more than the attention and stares of strangers their spandex'ed bums draw.

If you are not wearing actual pants, your bum must be covered. Period.

2. Black on Black

I like to wear on the plane the jacket I will wear at my destination. That may mean carrying it with you if you are flying out of a warm climate into a cold one. Don't worry; it will make a great pillow. I like slip- flats or pumps when traveling. And I always pack a pair of socks in my carry-on.

I'm wearing skinny black knit pants. So I need a longer piece on top. Vault members were the first to score 20% off this fabulous jacket from J. McLaughlin. You can still purchase it here, and it is worth it at full price I promise. My carry-on is a large tote, and my handbag lives inside it when I'm traveling to and from my destination. Vault members, shop it here in the December Style Vault, Style Notes.

Knit pants are the most comfortable to travel in, but they need to be the right fabric so you don't get elephant knees or droopy bum if they stretch. I found these incredible black travel pants and put them in the Vault in November - they were a HUGE hit. It's not too late, you can join the Vault today and find them in the November Style Vault. Curvy and petite options also available.

A white or ivory t-shirt is a core piece of my wardrobe when traveling. The right one can be dressed up or down, and all you have to do is switch out your camis underneath to keep it fresh. I added my fave long sleeve white t-shirt, identical to this one, to the December Style Vault, Style Notes section.

3. White on White - don't fear this. Travel with this stain remover.

For San Francisco, I won't need a coat, but I will need something for the cooler nights, so I'm using this ivory waterfall sweater. I paired it with white jeans. Yes, white jeans in December. Just added: a perfect wintry ivory waterfall sweater to the December Style Vault, Style Notes.

No one travels in white or ivory. Be the classy traveler who whispers great style in a sea of, quite frankly, tackiness. You could add a pop of color with your accessories, but I chose to keep it neutral. Find a fab tote just like mine in the December Style Vault, Style Notes.

I am not kidding when I tell you I have had these J Crew camel suede flats for over 10 years. That is crazy! And, not to rub it in even more, but I bought them at a consignment store. My Chanel flats in these other pictures  I bought new years ago, so it all comes out in the wash. Right??
