3 Ways to Dress Up Your Jeans for the Holidays

It's a dress-down holiday for a lot of us. But that doesn't mean jeans and sweatshirts. Ohhh noo; it means jeans and a party-ready top. Tina is showing us 3 ways to dress up your jeans for the holidays.

I love my jeans. And not just white jeans. I love faded rinse, dark rinse, mid-rinse, black. But when it comes to deciphering what "Festive Casual" means for the next holiday party you attend, this is what it means, my dear ones. It means Jeans + A Fancy Top.

And here's how to do it.

But first things first. Your jeans must be dark-rinse. Not faded. Not white. Not even black, really. That's because the wrong black jeans can look really wrong. We'll address that later. But a good pair of dark rinse jeans is everything and will take you everywhere, especially during this casual yet festive holiday. My favorites are bootcut jeans with no striping, glazing or whiskering, like these. (Insiders, make sure you shop all my picks for dark rinse jeans inside the December Must-Haves Vault.)

3 Ways To Dress Up Your Jeans

1. Black on Black

I like black on black with dark rinse jeans because it is dressier than color blocking, typically speaking.

My blouse is organza, pretty ruffly to add interest at the neck and wrists, and my blazer is black lace. I love mixing textures when wearing tone-on-tone.

Here's a closeup of the textures. Festive, right?

2. Fancy-shmancy Winter White Jacket

Jeans are very chameleon. Depending on what you pair them with, they take on whatever role you need them to.

My jacket is quite fancy. It's Chanel. I wore it the other night to the Style Vault Annual Christmas Party (loved seeing all of you there, and congrats to Ashley for winning a $400 shopping spree with Barbara!). I had on these velvet pants I bought years ago at TJ Maxx for $14.99. Guess how many people commented on the Chanel? One (thank you Vicki :) ) and guess how many commented on the velvet pants? Like 12. Oh well, I wear clothes to make myself happy, so I still consider the jacket money well-spent because I love it.

Isn't little Evie the sweetest little nugget ever!! She's Krissy's little love (our kind and funny and beautiful photographer), and you know Deidre as my BFF.

So whatever on the Chanel. These red plaid heels are probably stealing the show, too. Maybe the trick is to wear nothing but the Chanel? (Insiders, don't miss the pretty white jackets in the December Must-Haves - I loooove the satin one!)

3. Tuxedo Jacket

You do have a tuxedo jacket in your closet, right? You must. It is like the most useful piece to have on hand during the holidays, May-cember for weddings, graduations, etc, and for a boring January evening when you're tired of all your clothes. Pull out a tuxedo jacket and you are a new person.

I have a satin navy jacket. I was telling Krissy I got it in Paris at a second-hand store, and she said we've got to do a video one day of me telling the stories of where I pick up my stuff in the most random places. There's always a story!

Mine is double-breasted, which a lot of tux jackets are, but I like single-breasted ones for buxom women. Add a big sparkly statement necklace and you're strutting your festive casual with the best of 'em!

One final word. No ugly Christmas sweaters. Even if the invitation specifies that. It could be a mean prank. Because who wants to wear anything ugly?

(Insiders, you can shop tuxedo jackets and jeans, and bunches of other fun pieces in the December Must-Haves.) You're welcome to try it for free for 5 days if you're not an Insider yet!

Thanks for reading and Merry, Merry!
