An Iconic Sweater Everyone Can Love And Wear

Tina, here.

Some days feel more nostalgic than others. This time of year there are many rites of passage from  kindergarten to 1st grade, high school to college, college to "The RW" as my father calls it (the real world), from maiden to Mrs., and so many more. What will you be feeling this May? Will you be emptying a nest? Will you be starting out on a new course yourself? It's nice to have a few things in life that never change. In this season of change, I would like to reacquaint you with an old friend who makes you feel safe and cozy - the 1988 Rollneck Sweater. You ordered it from J. Crew (it was a mail-only order company til 1989) and you wore it everywhere. Friends, let this take you back to a sweet time before short summer breaks, the internet and selfies.

The rollneck sweater first appeared in this J. Crew catalog, in 1988. It was unisex, and I had the garnet colored one. Did you have one? Now's your chance to because it's been reissued in 3 beautiful colors, with an updated fit.

They have redesigned it slightly with a slimmer fit and longer body. I got the pink and the ivory. And by the way, J. Crew is not paying me to say any of this. I just happened to walk in the store and saw them and flipped out!

Stella snuggled right up into my arms. Wish they made one for her size! (Stella belongs to my wonderful photographer Krissy.)

And what about these shorts??? Did you have some of these, too? These are the original madras plaid bermuda shorts I got from J. Crew in 1988 or 1989.

They are extremely high waisted and quite baggy now after 30 years of washing. But let me tell you. No holes! And they still fit thankyouverymuch.
