Dreamy Winter White Outfits

Tina, here.

One of our sweet readers sent me a message asking when am I going to post about winter white. And I was like, exactly! What am I waiting for? So here is one of my favorite posts to write about, right up there with ways to wear a white t-shirt and how to wear white jeans.

You may think you can't wear white. I love this debate. White does not necessarily make you look bigger. It has more to do with the shape of the piece than the color. I will concede that black is almost always slimming. But the right white can be, too. The right white is:

  • a hefty fabric that isn't see-through
  • a stretchy fabric that won't give you wet diaper bum, elephant knees or elbows
  • a bleachable fabric like cotton

In other words, my favorite white jeans right now that check all 3 boxes are these white jeans. If you're not wearing white jeans, and you're wearing the ever popular white silk or lace tops and skirts that are everywhere, look for shapes that skim your curves, neither hugging nor swallowing. Like the bias cut.  I love talking about the bias cut with you all. It's such a game changer.  I've got this white satin bias cut skirt (below, similar here) I love to wear mostly during the winter months, because in the summer I'm either sweating or my spray tan is staining it.

I think another important point to make about wearing white is that texture is always good. Especially when you're doing the white on white on white look. It's like a home. A home done in all neutrals needs lots of different textures. I've mixed my satin skirt with a cashmere tank and a linen blazer. Just like your leopard print pillow or pop of blue trim can "make" an all-white room, you need to add a pop of color to an all-white outfit. Enter the accessory. Or a few of them.

I typically choose brown to wear with bright white, as in these brown knee boots (similar), whereas I think black looks amazing with ivory. I'll wear my turquoise jewelry whenever I can. It's unexpected to put it with such a fancy satin skirt. It's that high-low thing.

My photographer must've just surprised me with something she said :)

Sometimes I'll go for a bigger statement and cross over into the "column of white" with a pop of color look. Since I added a pretty colorful and heavily patterned wrap, I removed my turquoise cuffs but did add hoop earrings. And I switched into a lighter, tan boot (similar - ignore the name of the boot) to keep the column of white uninterrupted.

Thanks for reading! Give winter white a try! And be sure to check out all my Latest Loves, where you can shop all my favorites.

Best,

Tina
