My Favorite Ways To De-Stress

Tina, here.

Whew! It's been a long year! And may I wish you a Happy New Year if you have not already received my well wishes in a prior post. I feel like hibernating, don't you? I certainly feel like spending time at home nesting, reading, catching up on The Crown and planning posts for the new year. Actually truth be told, I've been planning posts for the new year since last fall. That's the life of a blogger! I'm also getting in clients' closets for the January clean-outs, which are soooo cleansing. There is nothing better than starting the new year with a closet clean out! (BIG post coming up on how to clean out your closet!) But first, take the next couple days or the weekend coming up to rest and de-stress. This is when our minds want to re-set, and our bodies want to slow down. Are you able to take the time to do this, my dear friends? I hope so. I'm a different person when I have some rest on board. I've also heard it said, a change is as good as a rest, which I am a big fan of. Even if you can't rest, do something different!

If you haven't already, you may want to take a look at my January Must-Haves! I just loooove a new year with new outfit opportunities! I want to stop wearing "comfort clothes" more often than not and wear super chic ensembles that are in fact comfortable. There's a difference. It takes more time and thought to be chic and comfortable.

My Favorite Ways To De-Stress

1. Reading

I love biographies, classics, and historical fiction. I just finished a biography of Queen Elizabeth and now I'm reading The Last Of The Mohicans. I'm also getting a huge kick out of this little book, A Bunch of Pretty Things I Did Not Buy by Sarah Lazarovic. I agree with her here, "It's small pleasures that make us most happy...some of the most effective ways to achieve happiness through money is to spend on small pleasures instead of big-ticket items." Think, flowers on your night table. A pretty new lipstick color. I love picking up printed cocktail napkins that I use every morning with my coffee or tea in the afternoons. Smiling 10 times a day is better than smiling 8 times a day.

2. Watching historical dramas. Favorites are The Crown (about Queen Elizabeth's reign), The Last Kingdom (Viking history), Reign (18th century French history), Downton Abbey (duh) and I'll watch every Jane Austen movie once every 6 months. And I re-read her novels every year.

3. Doing crossword puzzles. Yes, I'm a nerd but I also don't want to get Alzheimer's.

4. I'll turn on music and putter around the house, rearranging vignettes, furniture, or even just bake. It's the simple act of being at home that I love.

5. Pinterest - how many rabbit holes have you been down when on Pinterest? Isn't it the best! Take a look at my Pinterest boards!

You can shop items featured in this post in our brand new Shop (Insiders, you get to shop posts first, under the Style Vault tab - check your email for notices of these early-access posts and special style guides!). Hope you find some time to rest and feed your soul before the new year really sets in - and then you'll be ready for a closet clean out! Be sure to sign up for the blog so you don't miss that post!
