Game Day Outfits: What to Wear to a Football Game

Football says Fall is here! Crisp days watching your favorite team, bundled in your team scarf and jeans. The reality is season kick-off starts around Labor Day and it’s still hot enough to melt your face off outside. Game days consist of sitting in the stands in 90+ degree weather, leaving you with sweat spots that look like you need a diaper and makeup so runny it looks like Tammy Faye Bakker on stage begging for forgiveness.

Well you have to wear something, you’re not in college anymore so streaking is frowned upon. Save your adorable knee high boots and jeans with a quilted vest look for October, let’s talk about how to dress RIGHT NOW! Game Day outfits at the start of season are a great way to get a little more life out of your Spring/Summer pieces. Look at it as their last hoorah!

1. Dresses

I personally do not like wearing shorts to a game for the obvious wet bottom problem. Shorts tend to scrunch up, get sweaty and when you stand up leave you looking crumpled and uncomfortable. I reach for dresses. Yes, dresses. Put down the sheath, unless you are a guest of the NFL in a suite.

Cotton is your friend these days. It is light and airy plus it is washable. Stay away from dark colors, yes, I realize your team might have only dark colors. So put your white dress back to work. It is not just for the beach. And if white is not your thing, a soft heather grey is a great alternative. Layer your team colors with accessories like a summer scarf. You can use it to shade your shoulders or heck, you might need it as a towel depending on the temp that day! Here, I am wearing a hat to help shade my face from the sun. Just remember to pick a smaller brimmed hat so your seatmates don’t end up in obstructed view seating.

2. Chambray and Cotton

Chambray is a great neutral option. Not denim, chambray. It is light and airy. In your mind pretend you are in jeans. It’s your neutral. You can pair any color with chambray. I am again wearing an open toe bootie for walking. I have placed a great option for you in my collection. Let's pretend your team colors include black, I have chosen black accessories to pair with my chambray. I let you know who I am rooting for without having a heat stroke.

Another great option is a cotton skirt. Think airflow, think ventilation. Stay away from long options as they tend to create a tented sweat lodge effect around your legs. SV members, I have placed the exact skirt I am wearing in the Style Vault for you. Throw on your team graphic T (please don’t write me and tell me you hate the Gamecocks, read the shirt). Try and find a graphic that is not from the bookstore, something a tad more personalized like I have done here. My husband loves this shirt, I gave it to him as a stocking stuffer last year at Christmas.

3. Hair and Makeup

As for hair and make up, go light and easy. Put your hair in a cute ponytail. Last month Deidre showed you how to make your ponytail look fabulous. If you’re like me and have shorter hair, a side bun is a beautiful way to get it off your neck and it makes a hat sit correctly.

Now for your face. This is not the time to wear a smoky eye. You will end up spending the day wiping your eye and asking your friends “is my mascara under my eyes?” Very annoying to you and everyone around you. Start with a great base, no not base make up. I use Omorovicaza Complexion Perfector with SPF 20. It’s a simple sunscreen with slight coverage to even out your skin. I then powder with Colore Science Sunforgettable SPF30. It’s a great broad spectrum powder sunscreen! True confession, I have been using it for years and the men in my house love it too when golfing because it does not get sweaty and run into the eyes (get theirs in clear/neutral). A light eye shadow like Therapy Systems Pure Silk and a little waterproof mascara. Lastly, I finished with Trish McEvoy Lip Perfector. It comes in one color. It is a cool new product. It is meant to enhance your natural lip color, not change it. It looks different on everyone. To see how I transition from this simple summer look, be watching for my Fall Makeover in the next few weeks, in fact the Therapy Systems Pure Silk will be discounted in Style Vault Complete.

As a reminder, carry a wristlet to the game. Most major stadiums no longer allow anything larger for security reasons. Besides you don’t want to put your nice bag under a stadium seat. I found one that contains a built-in charger, Insta post all game long! Style Vault Complete members make sure you check this out. Make sure you verify phone compatibility. I personally had to buy the adapter kit as well for the right plug-in, but totally worth it. They come in every color so I feel confident everyone will find something to cheer about!

My collection this week will give you a few more late summer options to shop that can carry you into next year, as well as a must-have year round bootie. I am collecting pieces inside your Style Vault and Style Vault Complete that contain shopping options from size 0-24 and many petites. I am working hard to locate beautiful pieces for everyone! Not a Style Vault Complete member? If you want to check it out to see what you might be missing, here's a link to try it for free for 5 days (this link let's you try out our upgraded Complete Vault, where there are even more great shoes, handbags and jewelry to shop now!)
