A Great Holiday Wreath - The Stylish Girl's Easy Guide to the Holidays - Day 10

Guess what day it is? It's Saturday which means it's time to pile up in the car and head to the woods to chop down your tree!

Us city-dwellers have all kinds of trees from the forest to choose from, that are brought in to all our neighborhoods. So that's where we'll be heading, and we'll toss in a couple of wreaths.

My wreaths have to be real. I've made them on grapevine from pine, cedar, boxwood and holly I've gathered. And I've bought real pine or cedar wreaths. But what I absolutely have to have is the scent of real basalm. In a pinch, though, I've relied on my preserved wreath and burned my basalm incense.

This old bay leaf wreath has been with me through 3 moves and I can't believe it's held onto its good looks and kept its color. Grab a velvet ribbon.

I go for pretty simple greenery and holiday decorations if you haven't noticed. I don't do opulent. I like clean and classic. And hardly any red. I love greens and browns and soft golds and silvers, not too shiny or sparkly. I'm using a beautiful chestnut brown wide velvet ribbon.

This is a substantial silk velvet ribbon and has a gorgeous sheen, so it should hold its shape on an outdoor wreath. No polyester ribbons allowed.

I have found that my preserved boxwood wreaths did not hold up well, but this bay leaf wreath seems pretty hardy. I like this preserved wreath, too. You can change out the bow!

Merry, merry!
