How To Wear Flare Jeans

Tina, here.

I can't tell if it's the 70's or the 80's with all the flashback fashion we're seeing for Fall. But one thing is for sure; there is nothing new under the sun. Every trend you see is a shoot-off of another one from days past. My favorite example are Chanel two-tone ballet flats and slingbacks that are being and have been copied by EVERYone. But she copied them from a men's 18th century design. Do we remember that designer's name? No. Just about everything you see online and in stores today is a derivative of someone else's design. We all know Zara copies right off the runway every season so the likes of us can access the latest looks instantly. Gucci's florals, Chloe's bell bottoms, Dolce & Gabbana's lace dresses have been some of the most widely copied for several seasons running, now. Sooooo, back to the subject at hand, flare jeans have definitely returned. There was nothing really exciting in fashion for years until skinny pants erupted and conquered every woman's closet. But we're tired of them. Ankle pants à la Audrey will never grow old, don't you worry. It's just that the pendulum is swinging, again.

And we have my favorite style of jeans and pants once again front and center: the flare. Or bootcut, the less dramatic version of flares. Who can wear skinny pants? I'll just say they're not for everyone. Who can wear flare jeans and bootcut jeans and pants? EVERYone. (Shop mine here.)

Why Flare Jeans and Bootcut Jeans Look Good On Everyone

Flare and bootcut jeans balance out our hips and thighs with that slight flare from the knee down. The taller you are, the more dramatic a flare you can do; the more petite you are, less of a flare is best.

You can see my jeans (special 70th Anniversary Wranglers!) are fitted through the hips and thighs, and only start to flare out right below my knees. That's key: your jeans must be fitted in the hips and thighs, otherwise you'll look frumpy.

How To Wear Flare And Bootcut Jeans

What kind of shoes do you wear with flare and bootcut pants and jeans? This is so good. It fits our philosophy perfectly: buy pieces that multi-task in multiple situations. You can wear heels, tall boots, sneakers or flats with bootcut jeans. Voila. Perfect pair of pants. I'm wearing my jeans with heels above.

Flare Jeans With Sneakers

You may find that you need two pairs of jeans - one hemmed for flats and one you can wear with a heel. Here's a tip: next time you wash your jeans (NEVER in hot water or a hot dyer), take them to your dry cleaner and ask them to iron a crease down the front. This will create  loooong and lean legs.  And the crease should last through several washes. But you know that you don't have to wash your jeans very often, right?

Flare Jeans With Flats

A pointy toe flat will always look best with flared jeans. NEVER a ballet flat.

Get yourself some flare or bootcut jeans this Fall. I'm not so sure the ones in your costume closet for 70's-themed parties will cut it. The second or third time a trend comes back in around, it's usually a bit improved over its last version.
