Lace Trends for the Fall

Just when you were wondering if it is time to retire lace from your trend rotation, I am here to tell you it is back this Fall. I know you are thinking: back? Yes, lace is re-inventing itself this season. Lace has been a beautiful lady-like staple in our wardrobe for a few seasons and now she’s ready to stop being so sweet and start taking a few risks.

Lace is going edgy and Victorian this Fall. Think: high neck, jagged edges, adorned with trims and overlaid on corsets. For all the literary buffs, more Miss Havisham.

Lace With A Classic Edge:

So what’s a girl to do with all her beautiful lady-like lace? Reinvent it! When I first purchased this lace blouse, I paired it with white or faded jeans and nude accents making it sweet and delicate. Now I am wearing it with an edgy pencil skirt and chunky platform heels to bring the darker Victorian feel to my lace.

Before you buy another lace piece, shop your closet and ask yourself if you simply need to update the styling of the piece you own. My collection this week includes an edgy pencil skirt in sizes 0-24 and petite to help you update your classic lace blouse (no worries, I placed a lace blouse in the collection in case you do not own one).

Lace All Day:

I feel like sometimes edgy lace gets pushed to the back of the closet during the day, relegated to an occasional night out. Sort of a psychological stop because good girls don’t wear black lace in the day. I am in LOVE with this lace under shirt I came across recently. And, it is in my collection for you, too!

The lace covers my hand like glove, I know very Madonna circa Desperately Seeking Susan, here. All my 80’s dreams are coming true! I am softening the lace with an oversized cashmere V-neck sweater. The loose silhouette of the sweater makes the lace less vampy. Paired with my distressed black jeans and the booties, I am ready for a stylishly casual day out and early Bistro-style dinner with friends.

Evening Out:

My blouse is modest with a high neck and exaggerated sleeve, often seen in Victorian style. I'm also wearing a beautiful pair of black cigarette pants. Every woman should own one pair.

Note: they are tailored to show my ankle bone. You could also pair this blouse with a pencil skirt and chunky heels.

With a high neck blouse, I am styling my hair in an easy chignon to showcase the detailing.

Special Occasion/Cocktail:

Ready to rock this trend to the extreme!?! I am short and often struggle with the midi length that has arrived on the scene. Being 5’1 is cute and all but lengths are tough. My dress works in midi length for me because is it hugging my curves and proving there is someone in all this fabric. I have sourced a similar dress for you that is sure to flatter every body type. I am thrilled I have found options in sizes 0-24!

I have also included an option with a high neck like mine. Did you notice the lace overlay with trim to create a corseted look? This dress achieves numerous highlights of the Victorian lace trend in one look.

I'm pairing mine with a lace-up bootie to really complete the look. If you just aren’t ready for a parasol yet, a high knee boot would tone down the complete Victorian feel and bring another seasonal trend to your outfit; a chunky heel.

I know I have given you a lot of options today. You can always start by adding one new piece you love and mix it into your wardrobe to either update some lace you already own, or go for it and bring the trend full-force into your closet this season! I know this is a 180 from how you've been wearing lace, trust me, you are not going to look like Morticia Adams.

I love hearing your feedback. As you are trying this trend, reach out to me at [email protected] or on Facebook with your styling questions!

Until next time,

Jessica
