How To Make An "Old" Dress New Again For Spring

Tina, here.

Sometimes you just can't buy a new dress. Other "priorities" get in the way. There's an oil leak, a school trip, a bunch of wedding and baby shower gifts. So the spring must-haves get shoved to the back of the line, and we're left to our own devices to reinvent an old dress. But warning: do not attempt this alone.

Here's my "old" Kate Spade dress. It's absolutely fine. It's just not "new!" Polka dots are everywhere this season (this polka dot dress has pockets and got good reviews!), and I like them when they look grown-up and not like they belong on a kindergartner's smock. To make a dress feel fresh, you can't just go about willy-nilly adding different accessories than you wore with it last year. The key to making an old dress new again is to accessorize with new, currentpieces that bring a classic piece into this season's style moment. If you accessorize with outdated jewelry, belts or shoes, then you'd be better off wearing something else.

The three elements I'm using to update my dress are a black patent belt, a white crochet jacket and a shiny croc clutch, all pretty on point this Spring.
