Moms: How to Survive the Back to School Panic

Just as my inbox begins to calm down and I can begin to relax by the pool, it happens. You know the dreaded subject line, JOIN US FOR THE BACK TO SCHOOL PICNIC. Poolside buzz kill.

So it begins, endless supply lists containing instruction for what to buy down to the pencil manufacturer (true story). Up next, you receive the updated dress code. I bet you thought you could get away with a few gently used hand me downs, think again sister.

I will be honest, I cannot bring myself to leave the house and look for pencils. Me, who loves to shop. I hope you caught my earlier blog this week about Online Shopping. This is a great opportunity to follow my guide, and it's a sanity saver! The good news is if your state offers a tax free weekend the savings still apply online. Make yourself a margarita, grab those supply lists and start shopping. Just remember the “one for you, one for Mommy rule”.

With that said, I certainly would not dream of leaving you high and dry without your own back-to-school supply list. While you are online buying the center divider folders with 2-pockets, you might as well add a few required pieces to your wardrobe for fall. As a member of Your Style Vault or Your Style Vault Complete you don't have to hunt for anything because I have researched the best options for the best price and placed them in my collection for you. Right now I want you to shop my collections for free over the next 5 days simply by signing up here.

A brown suede skirt with snaps is going to be a great option this fall instead of denim. What I love about this skirt is it looks cute with my sneakers and a white V-neck for running errands, watching flag football and casual Friday. Want to take it up a notch? Throw on a playful bootie. (Complete Insiders, Deidre added a couple great pairs of leopard ankle boots in this Style Vault Complete collection and I am adding one to my Back To School collection that both Complete Insiders and YSV Insiders can shop.) Add a denim jacket to finish it off. I found a really great faux skirt option that will leave you room in the budget for a trapper keeper.

Sneakers are in this season. I’m suggesting a basic black suede pair inside my collection right now in Your Style Vault Complete. You can keep them casual with your torn black jeans and t-shirt or wear them at work when running out around town. If Victoria Beckham can give up heels, so can you.

Make sure you have a great tote for the season. Besides how else will you lug snacks, crayons and sports forms around with you? I love this inexpensive tote I found for you. I have also placed a second tote inside my SVC collection. It features a small cross body bag so you can stash the tote in your trunk and just keep your essentials close. You will get the best of both worlds with this one bag.

They are back! When Deidre and Tina started talking about chokers, I admit I cringed. True confession: I used to tie black ribbon around my neck in the 90s if I was in a pinch for a choker. Like all things old that are new again, I love the updated styling. I particularly love the long wrap chokers that are out there right now. I placed the gold one I am wearing inside my SVC collection this week so you can own it, too!

In the update of the choker, the collar necklace might be a more approachable way to wearing the choker look without having the necklace right at your throat but instead lay at the collar bone like this one. Style Vault Insiders and Complete Insiders, make sure and check out the collar necklace I have placed inside SVC for you. I am giving you an option that works with a simple white t-shirt or a blouse.

As a bonus, I am throwing in a wardrobe builder: the white v-neck t-shirt. Since I am sure you have worn yours to death this summer (notice how I am politely avoiding the sweat stain conversation right now), I am reminding you to freshen up your white t’s coming into fall. The white t-shirt I have placed in the Style Vault is exactly what has been photographed here. When I found this one for $28 a few years ago, I finally fulfilled the never ending white t-shirt quest. Please don’t spend $100 on a white t-shirt. All white t-shirts stain, get tiny holes and need replaced, and the extra $70 doesn’t come with a warranty.

Every piece in my collection this week inside your Style Vault and your Style Vault Complete contain shopping options from size 0-24 and many petites. I am working hard to locate beautiful pieces for everyone! And, if you want to see more of me and how you should style the items you purchase, follow me on Instagram!
