Never Wear This To Work (Interns, Please Hear Us) + Capsule Work Wardrobe

Tina, here.

There is a real problem in the workforce. Human Resources is at its wit's end. That's why they call us in to help, to address the rather uncomfortable situation of what to wear to work, or more awkwardly, what not to wear.

Ripped jeans have no place in the workplace, IMHO. If your job is one of groundskeeping or motorcycle ganging, then maybe yes, ripped jeans are ok. If you're part of a dreadfully hip architecture firm or music production team who wear destroyed clothes on the reg, then, yeah, I get it, you want to fit in and look like the cool kids. By the way, they all live in Nashville, it seems. Which is why I feel so darned dressy all the time in my skirts and blouses! But I've figured out how to make them cool, too.

But first, What Not To Wear To The Office (most of them, anyway)

To quickly sum up the video you can watch here, plus a few more suggestions,

Short skirts are a no-no.

Hooker heels, ditto.

See-through or sheer or "bedroom lace" is an H-E- Double Hockey Sticks - NO
Same for backless and off-the shoulder tops (I found an exception and you can shop it at the very bottom!)

Ripped anything is also pretty much always a no. Don't worry, if you happen to be super cool and do work in an edgier environment, I've got you some ideas down below, too.

You need :

1 Skirt

3 Tops

If you don't wear black, then opt for a pale grey or charcoal grey top instead.

1 Jacket

2 - 3 Pairs of Shoes, 1 Neutral and 1 Color

And now you can start mixing and matching. All the pieces work together. And guess what?? They are all going to work this fall, too! I'll show you how to transition them into the fall workplace in a couple months.

Notice anything? It's a wardrobe of neutrals so you can mix and match all summer long. And add a pop here and there for variety. This is one of our core principles: invest in a classic wardrobe of neutral pieces you can mix and match to stretch every piece into multiple uses.

A t-shirt can be office-ready when you pair it with the right companions, especially under a blazer.

If you're needing that certain pop of interest, here's where you can add a fun pump you typically wear with your white jeans or sundresses on the weekends.

If you have these basic wardrobe building blocks already, and you'd like to add a few more pops, here are some more outfit ideas!

The white denim jacket and blazer become interchangeable. You can also substitute in these denim pumps into any outfit, or the caramel sandals here.

I know you want to wear all your cute off the shoulder tops and one shoulder tops this summer - I suggest wearing the less "date night" ones and pairing them with pants instead of a skirt.
