November Fall Fashion Must Haves from Tina

Tina, here.

Welcome to November (tomorrow, but I'm ready today), the month of serious holiday outbreaks and celebrations! My favorite holiday is and has always been Thanksgiving. And it's just over 3 weeks away! Which means surrounding that date are parties, family and friend gatherings, school plays, and possibly some travel.

Is your wardrobe ready?

Your wardrobe will be able to handle every event on your calendar after you check off this list, my November Must-Have Wardrobe List. (And don't worry, Insiders, you can shop all these finds in the the Vault.)

1. A Midi Skirt

A midi skirt is that awkward length that falls just below the knee, around mid-calf area. So if it's so awkward, why is it on my must-have list? Because they are a wonderful wardrobe hero in the right situation. That situation might be: work (much more professional than a short skirt), traveling (no risk of being over-exposed in something shorter), and when you wear your knee high boots if you don't like to see skin between the bottom of your skirt and the top of your boots.

We'll be covering more ways to wear and what to wear with your midi skirts coming in November.

2. Jeans Alternative: Cords

klc-9907Jessica has this great quote from an exchange in American Sniper between Chris Kyle and a girl in a bar. A few guys have already hit on her, and she says something to the effect of, Why can't a girl just get a drink and not be bothered? He answers, Maybe it's your leather pants. To which she asks, What kind of pants does a girl have to wear to get left alone? His answer? Corduroy.

Cracks me up every time. But guys need to get over it and just deal with the fact that cords are comfortable, soft, and they're not jeans! Sometimes we just need to wear something else besides jeans (or leather).

I'll be showing you in November how to shop for and wear cords the right way without getting saggy bum syndrome or looking like a den mother. Style Vault Insiders (Complete and Standard members) can start shopping the best cords, and all these must-haves, in our latest collection.

3. Something Embellished

something-embellished

Is bling still in? Not in the way it was a few years ago when everything was bedazzled. The bum, the girls (think about all those t-shirts), the nails, iPhone cases and whatever could be studded, crystal'd, or sparkle'd. Ladies, we've moved on from that era. If you haven't, why not. (notice that wasn't a question ha)

So let's do bling in a new, less Kardashian way, shall we? Think metallic, embroidered or otherwise embellished in a beautiful, subtle way. Not the Affliction t-shirt and jeans way.

4. Holiday Dress

It's time to choose your holiday wardrobe palette. And by that I mean, choose what your holiday colors will be, and get a dress or two and a top or two in those colors, and then mix it all up with fun accessories.

My colors this holiday will be green, black and white. Pick yourself up off the floor. I know you're shocked. But really, white is my thing and green is close to turquoise, and I just don't do red (except for this sweater I found last year with my initials emblazoned across it - had to have).

5. Hat & Gloves

If I'm not careful I can go little ole lady real fast. I just happen to like things like matching hats and gloves, or sweet little sweater sets (remember when J. Crew sold those like hotcakes- heaven) and beautiful silk scarves. So yeah, I have to watch myself. But hat-wearing is a newfound oldie but goodie trend with a whole new look this season. Last year it was the floppy hat (could not have disappeared sooner, IMHO), and this year we've got the western/bolero/fedora thing happening. All of which are longtime favorites of mine, and will always be classic long after they're not the trend of the moment.

We've put together a little video on how to wear hats for your face shape. Once you know how to buy the right hat, you can wear them with confidence. Be watching for our blog post on Hats to see the video!

Spend a little time now getting your wardrobe holiday-ready and you'll free yourself up later to focus on all your lovely people and fun outings. Subscribe to the blog, too, so you get all our secrets and style tips!

Cheers!
