Now Released: June Must-Haves Under $100

Tina, here.

Summer! Find a good read, some warm waves, a cold drink and ree-lax a little (but not without my favorite sunscreen featured this month!). Beach hair and sundresses say you’re takin’ it easy. Gym shorts, old t-shirts and capris say you’ve lost your mojo (and your mind). If you’ve been steadily adding our must-haves to your closet, you are well on your way to the Perfect Wardrobe. That cotton J. Crew Rollneck Sweater from April? Wear it now on cool nights with the perfect Sateen Cigarette white jeans from May, these wedges that almost sold out in tan (go ahead and get them in the prettiest soft metallic champagne color!), and any of the summer jewelry we've featured.

Big Takeaway Alert! The key to Summer shopping is to save your money for Fall shopping. All of the must-have items featured for June are under $100. Don't overspend, especially if you find yourself vacation shopping. Summer clothes should take less out of your annual shopping budget because they take a real beating from all our sweat and constant washings; and they are typically made from less inexpensive fabrics like cotton and linen, not pricey cashmere, leather and suede.

1. Skorts

Half skirt, half shorts. Put it together and you get skorts. GENIUS. I wear mine for walking in the morning and for running errands on Saturdays. Get several pairs if you're tired of wearing shorts and all the skirts out there seem too dressy for daytime. Skirts actually can be more flattering to the legs as we grow up ? This way you get the best of both.

2. Real (Pool) Shoes

Requirements: Must be able to handle water. Must be easy to slip in and out of in a matter of seconds. Must be "real" shoes you can wear during the day or to dinner. But never to work.

3. Swimsuit Cover-Up / Nighttime Maxi Dress

I probably need to start by saying that I have rules for wearing maxi dresses. I really prefer you to be over 5' 3", but if you're not worried about it then go for it. But the reason is that when you cover your legs with a long rectangular skirt, it appears you have no height. But you can get it back if you wear tall wedges! You can also opt for a high - low hem, so you can see the front of your legs. By daytime you're looking nice by the pool or at the beach, and won't be mistaken for the camp counselor in shorts and tee; and by evening, you look like you're on the vacation you deserve to be on, even if you're in your back yard.

4. A Sundress That Actually Has Coverage

Requirements: Doesn't look like a little girl's pinafore. (Have you been seeing all the teeny sundresses with ruffles on them, in the women's department? Crazy.) Must be able to wear a bra. Don't need to wear shorts under it. I've tried on the cutest little dresses that are so low under the arms, in the front, or in the back or all 3 that there's no way anything but DIMRS  are going under there. And we all know, those are for bra backup, not great as single actors.

5. Open-Front Lightweight Sweater

Requirements: Must be short enough that it can be worn with a dress. So it needs to hit between your waist and hips. This is an item you always need in the summer, but never seem to have. Get it now while you're thinking about it so you're not kicking yourself the next time you're in a cold restaurant.

6. Side Ruched T-Shirt

Did you know you need one more t-shirt in your closet? You do. You really do. It's a side knot or side ruch tee that is really nice enough to be called a top. It is thinning because it gives you a waist, and hides the mid-section. Stock up pronto - I don't know how much longer we'll see designers making these.
