Shop Now! All-New Handpicked April Must-Haves

Tina, here.

Can it pleeeeease not be Winter anymore? Kthx.

But I mean really. Give me some floral prints, a menswear shirt, a pair of wedges and a coral pedicure. And lots of white. I need some Vitamin April. I've been talking to clients a lot about Spring fashion and when can we start wearing our Spring clothes (click this link for that good stuff), and what to look for this Spring when we're shopping, and what to definitely NOT be caught wearing. This is your guide, dolls. It's all here. Your Spring Must-Haves.

All-New Handpicked April Must-Haves

1. Full Skirt

For like ever all we've worn are pencil skirts, except for those of you who can rock an A-line skirt. Since this shift to the Romantic the past season or two, we've been seeing more full skirts. And it's time to get one if you haven't already. You definitely don't want to overspend on this trend, especially if it's not a silhouette you wear often. But it can be so nice to show up somewhere in a skirt instead of jeans. Just add a t-shirt and sandals to take it down a notch so everyone doesn't accuse you of being so dressed up. The fuller the skirt, the more fitted your top needs to be. If you only wear a-line skirts (great for curvy hips), you may not feel comfortable in a full skirt with pleats. Stick to the tiered or fit and flare styles.

2. Kaftan (go with me here)

I was recently at an estate sale with a friend and we saw this killer kaftan. My friend said, I want to wear kaftans, and I was like YES! Let's all wear kaftans! Not like Mrs. Roper, but like Grace Kelly and Lee Radziwell.  (Follow me on Pinterest!) IRL, we'd wear them as cover-ups most likely. Which is what all these are except the last one. We didn't buy the kaftan that day, but I've been on the hunt for a good one ever since. Here are my picks.

3. Pink Pants

If you read I'm Switching Over My Closet Now To Spring, you saw my new infatuation with pink pants. Actually, it's been an obsession of mine since January. And I found some and I'm wearing them. White jeans be darned! HA AS IF. I'll never turn my back on my beloved white jeans (my very favorite white flare jeans), but these sure are fun every once in a while. Caution: do not wear black with bright pink. Stick to white, grey, or pale pastels.

4. Polka Dots (grown-up version)

I have spurned polka dots in my day. It's because the wrong ones are just too elementary and young-looking. But polka dots, or dots for short, are huge this Spring. I like to keep the scale small and keep the rest of the look classic so it doesn't go juvenile. And if you are dying over these polka dot pumps like I am, get them in our Shop.

5. UPF 50+ Hat

The cost of a hat with sun protection cannot be overvalued. I love smart fabrics. And you'll need to replace all your hats with these that have SPF.

6. Dressy Topper

It is a nagging problem. What to wear on top of a cocktail dress or fancy dress? Typical coats and jackets don't work, and sometimes we grab our pashmina to find it pilled and snagged. Here are some options. A few caveats: they are not cheap. That's because it is ALL about the fabric. Cheap will not do. It's like the wrong pair of shoes can ruin an outfit. So too the wrong topper. But you will be wearing it over and over. So cost per wear will descend. It's also all about the color. Let's agree not to call these shrugs because most shrugs are awful. These are cocktail dress toppers. They hit at the widest part of us, the top of our rib cage, so to keep from appearing like a linebacker, you must match the colors for a continuous, unbroken line.

The ivory topper, upper left, goes with all the dresses below it in the left column,  and the black topper, upper right, goes with all the dresses below it, right column.
