Spring Trends For 30-Somethings

Hey gals! It's Deidre. You may or may not already be aware of how opposite Tina and I tend to be when it comes to our wardrobes. There are definitely times our styles find common ground (which is when she copies something I buy) but for the most part I love putting my own twist on her looks and breaking her rules in my own way, when it's appropriate.
Tina really does have a weird sixth sense when it comes to upcoming trends and she loves making sure I know she was the first one to wear certain things like cropped flares and neckerchiefs. She definitely has a gift, which is why I always trust her wardrobe knowledge and advice.

However, I'm a thirty-year-old hairstylist with a nose ring and a few tattoos, so I have fun making her trends my own. And sometimes us thirty-somethings get left out because we're in the weird in-between stage of not wanting to look like a college student but still wanting to be appropriately trendy.
You probably already read the spring trends forecast post Tina shared with you a few weeks back. I'll go ahead and confirm that she is correct on all of these (not that anyone would doubt her) but here's how I will be incorporating these trends into my own spring wardrobe this year.

1. A Statement Sleeve

Deidre
It's a pretty rare occurrence for me to willingly choose a white top. I live in a world where black is my uniform, so it usually makes sense for me to purchase mostly that color. However, I am trying to be open to change because Tina is always telling me to buy something besides black. And like I told you, I pretty much always listen to her advice.
I am basically obsessed with this top, except for the fact that I've only worn it twice and I already managed to get makeup all over it. I definitely need practice wearing white clothing. The good news is that the material is thick enough that it's not the least bit see through, the statement sleeve makes just enough of a statement without being too over the top, and I can dress this up with a skirt or down with ripped jeans.

This is one of those items of clothing that causes everyone to notice you. It's true. After all, isn't that the point of a statement? You can find it from StyleWe here! (PS- It runs pretty small. Get a size up!)

2. Fashion Sneakers

Deidre
Confession: I kind of hate wearing heels. Most of the time you'll find me in some type of bootie, but now that sneakers are fashionable, my life is forever changed. Without a doubt, Tina and I will never have the same idea of the perfect fashion sneaker. These Steve Madden high tops make me feel like I'm some type of hip hop star, which instantly makes me feel cool. I wear them with everything from dresses to jeans to black skinny pants. I stand on my feet all day at work, so if I can be comfortable and stylish, my life is complete.

It's so weird how they can go with almost anything, from a leather moto jacket to a sweatshirt to a cold shoulder dress. I will go ahead and say this is definitely a look for those with an edgier style, but Tina's fashion sneaker look works if high tops aren't your thing. (She kind of hates them.)

3. Country Glam

Deidre
Let me go ahead and first point out that you probably noticed I finally  got my frayed cropped flare jeans back from Tina. The first time I wore them, I had no idea what shoes to wear and she rejected my first two choices. Talk about being self-conscious. I totally thought I knew what I was doing. (You probably think that, too. Get Tina or Barbara in your closet and you'll learn so much!) Moving on.
You might remember last year when Tina coined the term "western glam." This season, she claims it's all about the country glam. Ruffles, floral, and battenburg lace are what your closet needs this spring. I don't go as far as she does with this trend, but I do love a little hint of boho in my closet.
Deidre
You'll notice the lace detail on the top, the ruffled sleeve and the looser fit toward the bottom. All of those characteristics make for an adorably stylish country glam top. I actually found this one at Target!

So there you have it, thirty-somethings. We can still be on trend without looking like we're trying too hard to be twenty. Who knew?! Thanks for reading and have a great hair & outfit day!
