Spring Wardrobe Must-Have: The Classic (and Updated) Trench Coat

I went on a photo shoot and ended up adopting this trench coat. I don't think I took it off the whole day except when I absolutely had to for other shots (like pics of these miracle black pants we told you about). I bought mine at Gus Mayer (615-383-4771). This trench just kinda fits like a glove and feels soft yet indestructible. It does have a hefty price tag, but no judging. I don't buy clothes that often, and when I do, I wear them over and over and over and for years and years. That's why you're always seeing me on the blog in the same clothes "I've had for years." I wear my own stuff and hopefully I'm teaching you how to reinvent your wardrobe day after day, too. :) Cost per wear, dolls. And I'm a rockstar at driving down my cost per wear because I hold onto and wear my clothes for so long.
Anyways, back at the ranch, it's Trench Season. In Nashville it's 75 degrees one day, sunny and windy, and then snow is in the forecast for the next day. This can be brutal on your outfits. Enter the Trench Coat.

Trench coats are much slimmer than they used to be. Narrower armholes, straight cut (not A-line), and of finer fabrics with some manmade materials so they can withstand all kinds of abuse. Pop that collar! It frames your face and keeps it off your shoulders where it could add weight.
If you want to wear it open, just knot the sash in the back so you don't lose it.

If you tie the sash, tie it in a half bow to the side. I know I'm a broken record, but remember, no bows on your tummy!
Wearing my trench as a cocktail topper, draped over my shoulders, makes it seem that much more elegant, certainly more chic than how I wore it the day before to the grocery over my jeans and flats!
