Stock Your Closet: Glam Ankle Pants For Everyday

Tina, here.

Is it possible to be glamorous everyday without really trying hard? Yes. And I have got to get myself re-inspired to wear my "good" clothes again on just a regular ole Thursday. And so can you! It's not that hard when you have the right clothes hanging in your closet, or know how to wear what's already hanging there, just in new ways.

Take this long t-shirt I've had for a while. It's silk, which is hard to see in the pictures. I recoil from wearing it except on special occasions because I'm afraid of spilling something on it, wrinkling it, and then having to dry clean it. Just sounds too complicated. So I grab the cotton tee I can bleach if necessary. This is probably a really smart way to dress if you're chasing children out of mud puddles and around the house to wipe their bottoms when they go on the big potty. But if you're not doing that, what are you saving your good clothes for? Wear them. Life is short.

This post reminds me of one I wrote so long ago I don't even think it survived the transition from one of my old websites to a newer one, but nevertheless, I was urging all of us to wear dresses. My mother wore dresses almost every day. She also had her "cooking clothes" and her "laundry clothes", clothes she wore on those days that she didn't want to spoil.

Big Announcement: Most silks are now washable. No more expensive dry-cleaning!! And these silk blouses and pants don't cost as much! Which all means, if you're waiting for permission, YOU CAN WEAR YOUR GOOD CLOTHES. And while you're at it, use your good china, and your silver. And wear your pearls. On a Thursday.

There are wonderful washable silks and silk-alternatives like tencel, polyester and viscose. Also, satin jersey is a fabric I love. They don't have the same hand or drape as 100% silk, but it's a good compromise. A lot of tags still read dry clean or hand wash, and that's often to protect the company. I feel like it's usually a case by case situation whether or not I dry clean or wash (on delicate cycle).

So I get it, this outfit doesn't really fit into your car pool line or business-casual office, so maybe just one or the other, silk top or silk pants. Or the shoes with jeans. I'll give you some more outfit ideas at the end of the post.

There a lot of high / low options to choose from.

It's not 1983, but zippers are making a big comeback on our ankle pants. Let's just hope we don't see any stirrups.

Mules can be tough to pull off. The key is to show some skin on the top of your foot. For more must-know tips on wearing flats, pumps and sneakers, and looking good in them, you can check out this post: How To Look Good In Flats

I hope these outfits will inspire you to pull out your good clothes, and wear them! Silk pants with sneakers? Yes. Like white jeans after Labor Day, but more radical :)
