The Forgotten Spring Jewelry Accessory

Tina, here.

I love old lady stuff. You know this about me. I like cardigans, chintz and cameos. (Clarification - there are no "old ladies," only wiser, more beautiful women than us. And I do not like doilies, ruffles or aspic, for the record.) It can be hard to pull off a nod to the past without at least a tiny backdrop of modern chic. For instance, I have a lot of cameos that came to me, plus some I've bought that are more like intaglios than shell cameos. I've never known what to do with them. I thought about framing them. Then I saw Cindy McCain wear a couple mashed together on her lapel in a Bazaar spread years ago, and then Sarah Jessica Parker did the same with some animal brooches in a Gap ad a million years ago. Honestly, I tried it once or twice. But I didn't feel like I was really pulling it off that well. But now, I have found a way. This black cameo (similar) I picked up at the flea market is tough. It's not overly-Victorian. And I'm wearing it.

I always like a good juxtaposition. A cameo in black with a sweet dotted swiss sundress and a fedora. I also added a little satin belt. Because of all this going on, no major necklace is needed. Or earrings, really.
