The Sweatshirt Trend - Do We Love It Or Hate It?

Tina, here.

Hmmmm, sweatshirts. Being seen around town. As in, outside the home on a lazy Saturday morning in bed, reading the paper. Off woodsy trails and in hip coffee shops. And even stranger, seen with lace inserts and worn with heels. What is happening?

The Sweatshirt Trend

I'll tell you what's happening. Designer Sweatshirts is a new category I never thought I'd be wearing or showing you how to wear.

Fashion is a mad universe that keeps me on my toes and challenges my comfortable classic notions. But this, a pretty sweatshirt, is something I think we can all get behind and thank the fashion gods for giving us a comfortable top to wear.

Sweatshirt Trend

You have to admit. This is genius. If I, being the queen of classic, bought the exact same lace insert sweatshirt seen here that my friend Sally bought (and she's the queen of cool "comfort clothes" done right), then we're def onto something. Similar here for S and M, and here for L). Vault Insiders, we just added lots more options in pretty sweatshirts you can shop, inside the April Style Notes.

So, basically, designers realized that women are gonna choose comfort dressing over "getting all dolled up" for your average day, and the pretty sweatshirt is like the shirt equivalent of yoga pants that have style and don't show your crotch or bum!

You know I love a good juxtaposition. Like a "designer" sweatshirt with jeans and pumps. And a great clutch. Shop similar looks inside the Style Vault, where you can shop great finds and get fab style advice from real personal stylists.

Another new look in designer sweatshirts is to put a hoodie (egads!) under a prim blazer or jacket.

I've paired my hoodie and blazer with velvet pants I wore all winter with cashmere sweaters.

You can wear your sweatshirt hoodie zipped up for a bit more pulled together look...

Hoodies and Blazers

Or leave it unzipped and put a shell or t-shirt under your hoodie. My hoodie/blazer combo is by Veronica Beard - I got it years ago and now you see them everywhere. Good for her, because they are expensive. She was ahead of the trend on this one - or maybe she started the sweatshirt trend! Watch for them to go on sale, like I did. Vault Insiders, check the April Style Notes for great hoodie blazer alternatives at a WAY more approachable price.
