My Top 5 Purchases of 2017

Tina, here.

When I was cleaning out my closet a couple weeks ago, I started looking at the pieces I bought in 2017, which weren't very many. I'm not like a lot of bloggers who accept a never-ending supply of new material to work with (clothing and products) from retailers to promote to their readers. I buy my own clothes and mix and match til the cows come home. It's my thing. You probably read this blog to see how to style what you already have in your closet to keep it current and fresh and fun. And to see which trends and styles are worth snagging when you do need something. Invest in the classics so you can have fun with a few trends each season is our mantra around here. It works with a preference for modern classic style that I attempt to pull off every day. Except the days I get a wild hair and HAVE to try something different if I'm bored. It happens. My friends can attest.

So these are my favorite pieces from 2017. Each piece represents a part of me, my taste evolution. Two parts classic wardrobe building-block (slit hem black pants and suede blazer), one part "crazy" - an item I just love for no reason but I just do (bejeweled pink velvet flats), an updated version of a "finisher"- that 3rd piece you grab to complete an outfit (the denim jacket in floral), and a signature accessory that is "me" (western glam hide clutch). One thing they all have in common? They are wardrobe building blocks. You can shop them all at the end of the post and in our Shop where you'll find My Latest Loves!

1. Floral denim jacket - new, updated classic, somewhat trendy but I know it's one of those pieces I'll be wearing when I'm sixty. Rebecca Taylor, bought at UAL for $99.

2. Tan suede blazer - long lost friend I gave away that came back to me in a serendipitous moment (checking out at the counter and eyed it on a rack in the wrong place). Eleventy, bought at UAL for $249 (similar).

You can find the post about this blazer here.

3. Black slit hem pants - updated classic. The Row, bought at Jamie for I'm too embarrassed to tell you but they were expensive. And totally worth it. I've worn them no less than twice a week since August so I figure that's about $12.50 per wear so far. You can do the math :)

4. Bejeweled pink velvet flats - I love them so much I don't care if they are classic, trendy, or out of style because I love them that's why. Bought on Amazon for about $30 after seeing them somewhere else for twice that (they are on sale now via this link).

5. Hide clutch - my western glam thing, it's "me". Bought at the Nashville Flea Market for $20.

All these items are year-round, neutrals and pretty timeless for my wardrobe, my style. The expensive items are classic and I've already worked the cost per wear down a good bit. And the fun, more trendy items are less expensive. Sounds like a recipe for building a modern classic wardrobe.

What do I have my eye on for 2018? That's coming up in a soon-to-be-released post! Stay tuned and subscribe to the blog so you never miss a post! Check out all my Latest Loves, too, where you can shop all my favorites.

Best,

Tina
