What To Wear Christmas Eve

Tina, here.

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house...all the kids and animals are stirring and no one's as quiet as a mouse! Whether you're bedding down for the evening with friends and family, or are out and about dressed in holiday style, we all wonder what in Clarence's name are we going to wear Christmas Eve?

Sparkle and Shine

There aren't too many occasions anymore that call for truly dressing up, so the holidays are the perfect time to take your sparkle out on the town. No one will be rude enough to accuse you of overdressing. And if they do, those Scrooges are just jealous.

If Chanel is not on your wish list, this pale gold clutch pale gold clutch is so pretty!

Casual Dining

Not feeling the sparkle and fur? Let's take it down a notch and make things a bit more casual. If you're guests in someone's home for Christmas dinner, I still say dress up a little. I mean, after all it is the holidays and your hosts spent some effort to make your visit memorable. So honor them with a little extra effort on your part, too. (Don't worry, I've got some waaaay casual and comfy outfits for the homebodies camping all night in front of the fire below.)

Remember this leather shirt? It was in my What To Wear Thanksgiving post, and since I like to reinvent good purchases and draw them into service time after time, I am thinking of wearing it Christmas Eve. But this time with the sparkly skirt from above. I adore mixing genres, like this rough leather western with a glam sequin pencil skirt. You could also wear a denim shirt with a satin skirt or pants. I even like denim and velvet or denim and lace (wait, is that a Dolly Parton song? Oh, that's right, it's a Marty Rhone song).

Homebodies

And if you're a PJ's and cocoa kind of crowd, here are a few more suggestions for a super-duper relaxed Christmas Eve at home.

I'd love to know your family's tradition on Christmas Eve. Do you go to midnight mass? Leave milk and cookies for Santa? Open just one present? I'd love to hear!
