The Key To Wearing White Jeans After Labor Day Is What You Pair With Them.

The best way to wear white jeans in the fall is to change your tops and change your shoes. Switch from toe-baring sandals and raffia wedges to suede booties. And put up your sweet spring prints and start wearing your earth tone tees (I'm wearing the Dark Cocoa). My friend Mary Winn has a joke around her office, when someone is wearing something cute they say, "You know what else would look good with that? White jeans!" That's because white jeans go with EVERYthing. Which is why I wear them all summer long, and then again all fall. I just switch up the tops. And shoes. And accessories. Driving down that cost per wear with repeated mix and matching! And it makes getting ready in the morning so easy. I only have to think about what I'm wearing on top! I'm always scouting for good white jeans, and you'll see me blog about them all the time here since they are such a staple of my wardrobe. And why not? I can put any woman, any size into a pair of white jeans and make her look ten pounds lighter. Swear. Take a look at this great illustration about what a difference the right white jeans make (these are not clients because I don't do that to clients unless I ask them ? ).

The first two are, I hope you can see, bad. Straight jeans (straight all the way down from the hips to the ankles) hide any shape at all and make our legs look like tree trunks. Evil capris (straight or tapered to that no-man's-land under the knees) make our legs look short and our ankles look like kankles. And ahhhh, the third pair, even though these are a bit short for my liking, they are the most flattering fit. These jeans are a good mid-rise, slim through the hips and thighs, and slightly taper from the knees down, and highlight the ankle bones. And the fourth pair, bootcut (white sold out, similar here), are flattering because they are fitted through the hips and thighs. And that slight flare from the knees to the ankles balances the hips. And meanwhile, here are some great white jeans outfits for post-Labor Day.

I love pairing a suede jacket with white jeans. Or a cashmere pashmina. It's the juxtaposition that's unexpected which makes it interesting. Plus, you're getting more bang for your buck when you extend the life of summer pieces into fall by changing up the mix.
