What Men Want

Tina, here.

Don't laugh. I'm not talking about in life. Just in their closets. What men want, that is.

Does he wear cargo shorts? Merrells? College t-shirts?

It might be time for a come to Jesus.

Father's Day = Perfect Opportunity.

I do know men don't want to be talked into buying clothes they're afraid will make them look like an Italian gangsta / model. I know from dressing men for ten years that they want a simple, easy, fool-proof wardrobe. And to never look stupid.

If you want a good laugh, read this and share it with your guy. Here's just one juicy excerpt:

According to a recent study by the dating app Hater — it matches people who hate the same things — guys who love cargo shorts are the least likely men on the site to get a date. (These men also like long shorts and staying inside on nice days. And for what it's worth, the most popular men on the site like Pabst Blue Ribbon and V-neck sweaters.)

So, I present to you a very special Father's Day offer*...

Fathers_Day_Special_Offer

I'll make it real easy for you. Your guy needs this wardrobe. A lot of men know how to dress for the office, but weekends are a train wreck. So, for this Father's Day only, I am offering my consulting session for the discounted price of $1485 - that's $400 in savings! Let me make it easy for your guy to feel good about looking great.

To make it even easier, if you don't want to share this shopping list with him, I'll be the bad cop! I'll clean out his closet and bring back in the good stuff that makes him look like a grown up and show him how to wear it!

What Men Want: A Classic Updated Wardrobe (and not to look stupid)

V-Neck T-Shirts

Notice the high v-neck, and slim fit (not too slim). Big boxes don't look good on men, either. Don't spend too much on men's tees, because they need to be replaced every summer. The goal is to transition from frat boy t-shirts and Under Armor to knits.

Polos

All guys look good in pink. Just refer to it as "light red." Dry-cleaning these will keep the collars in place, but will speed up the wearing-out process. Polos can be worn with shorts, jeans or slacks. But no golf shirts anywhere but on the golf course!

Casual Button Downs

I prefer long sleeve button downs on men in the summer, sleeves rolled up and untucked or tucked, with shorts or casual slacks. No need for them to be pressed. It's all about being casual.

Slacks and Jeans

No stone-colored khakis! Leave those for the school boys across America. Either a honey tan or a deep caramel color is better and a more grown-up choice. He's not the intern anymore! As for jeans, if he hasn't bought them in a few years, his are terrible. Trust me. Well, you know it to be true. It's all about the rinse and the cut. And the back pockets. I have tried so, so many brands of jeans on men, and these AG Graduates continue to be the best. Never put them in the dryer! Cuffs and pleats - that's a bigger discussion we can have in the closet!

Shorts

Never, ever, do we need to see them wearing cargo shorts unless they are packing ammo. And never ever do their shorts need to hit below their knees. Wear a t-shirt or a button down (sleeves rolled up) with the shorts for a casual summer dinner with friends.

Jackets

If he is still wearing 3-button blazers, we have some serious issues. And, no, they are not worth altering to a 2-button. Navy is still the perennial favorite because he can wear it with black (yes navy and black - at least this navy sport coat can be worn with black), and black is so heavy. In fact, men really aren't wearing black suits anymore. ICYMI. He can throw on a sport coat over a button down and jeans. No tie necessary.

Reversible Belt

He needs a black belt, and a dark brown belt, with a bronze-ish buckle so he never has to ask silver or gold? Men loooove 2 -in-1 gadgets. And he doesn't have to match his belt to his shoes, but he can if he wants to.

Slip On Loafers

These he wears with shorts, slacks or jeans. Athletic shoes are only for athletic activities, capiche?

Here's a start to a great summer wardrobe. Like I said, I'm happy to play bad cop and take care of all the mess in his closet so you no longer have to fight about it. Save $400 and your marriage today. No seriously, I had someone tell me we saved their marriage after we took care of his closet!

Best,

Tina
