You Need A Spring Raincoat

Tina, here.

April showers. But don't forget the second half - May flowers! But, oh the April showers. You need a spring raincoat that doesn't look like a parachute or tent. You need a spring raincoat that is an outfit completer not an outfit ruiner.

Spring raincoats

You want a packable hood. So it can hide inside its pouch when it's not actually raining.

If you have a trench coat, congratulations! And if you don't, my favorite trenches of the season are found in the Style Vault, even for petites and curvy. There are the traditional ones in February's, and two OH SO GORGEOUS non-traditional trench coats in April's Style Vault. I already bought one of them. In fact, one of them doubles as a cocktail topper, it is so gloriously fab. You can find how to join the Vault and start shopping these fab finds here

Spring raincoats

I just bought this gorgeous trench/spring coat/cocktail topper. I am in love with it. Find it in April's Style Vault.

The issue with trench coats is that they don't come with hoods most of the time. And carrying an umbrella? I don't have a third hand, so I need a raincoat with a hood. Let's call these anoraks. Here are several ways I wear my anorak.

Spring raincoats

Here's my (several years old) anorak. I featured one very similar in the April Vault. I love the shape of these.

There are many ways to wear an anorak. And many ways not to wear an anorak.

You can  wear an anorak over white jeans or blue jeans. But you probably knew this.

The casz anorak look. It's been raining in Nashville for like a week. Such a drag.

anoraks

An anorak with crisp white jeans makes a rainy day sunny. Because white jeans make the world a better place. White jeans make the world go round.

And you can wear an anorak over a dress or skirt that is longer than the coat. I am not giving you express permission to start wearing a maxi dress, if that's what you're thinking. I'm just saying that if your skirt or dress peeks out under the anorak, that is fine.

Here's an upclose of my new "raincoat" over a dress. They are different lengths which is a-ok. I bet you didn't know you could wear your anorak or spring rain coat with a pencil skirt or over a sheath dress. You can. I show you how to wear an actual anorak over an approved maxi dress and a pencil skirt inside April's Vault.

I really don't want you wearing a crazy color or patterned raincoat. Like Paddington Bear yellow or one with little turtles or candy stripes on it.

I know you think you want to be cute in the rain. But you really don't. Kids do. Let them own this space. Photo courtesy of Larry Ewing.

And if you are wearing one of those raincoats that look like the waterproof version of the overcoats the children wear in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, you know like a ginormous cape made out of umbrella fabric? Hey, it's 2015. Raincoats and anoraks have come a long way. Time to upgrade.

Remember, look for an anorak that has a little pouch on the back of the neck for the hood, so when it's not raining it can be safely tucked in there. And you definitely want it to be windproof.

K so that should do it! If you're looking to replace your ginormous raincoat or twee anorak, I have selected the perfect anorak for Vault Insiders. It's so chic and easy to wear, and it's packable! And HALF OFF! If you want it and want to see all my other cool picks for April, join the Style Vault and be your most stylish self with out ever having to go to the mall.
