Spring Makeup Looks Anyone Can Achieve

Tina, here.

I am looking so pale.  I mean as white as the driven snow.  As in it's time to get a spray tan, start applying the Jergens Natural Glow and swap out my winter make-up palette for spring colors. Here are my fave spring beauty products. (For my all-time favorite beauty and skincare products, hop on over here.)

My theme is pink au naturel.

1. Bright eyes

All winter I used a gold and bronze palette on my eyes (this Lorac palette). It's crazy how quality eye makeup stays on, as opposed to most drugstore makeup. Same goes for lipsticks and glosses too, by the way. But I am a huge fan of buying cheap makeup in the drugstore or grocery to test a color before I invest in a more expensive version (plus, these little drugstore makeup aisles are soooo fun to shop, and can make for a great pick-me-up on a rainy day). For spring, I'm using two kinds of shadows, Lorac's nude palette (this one comes with my favorite eye primer) and this RMS Eye Polish. I've used RMS before and this stuff is seriously good.

The Pixi pack of cream shadows is so soft and pretty. It's a Target line I adore. Not as high quality as Lorac, but still a great budget find. This Lorac eye primer is the best I've used in a loooong time, but it doesn't have any skincare in it, so I use it just some of the time. But it makes THE BEST stand-alone no-eye-makeup eye makeup. Make sense? Wear it alone and your eyelids look like a six year old's.

Go for one or the other; either the eyes or the lips, but don't emphasize both at the same time.

2. Pink lips

pink

Pink lips are really in. And matte pink lips are in. Hmmm, I can't decide about matte. Matte can make you look older. So be careful with this look. Best on young, full lips (sorry but I've got to be honest!). I am wearing by Terry Pink lipstick, which is sheer-ish, and the by Terry clear gloss. Gold Digger is also a gorgeous color alone or over a lipstick, with a tinge of shimmery bronze.

I've been a huge believer in Chanel cosmetics for a while. No one can beat the depth of their pigmentation. And they create simply beautiful colors each season. If you need more warmth, the shades with a little brown or plum in them will work nicely for you.

As I mentioned, I love by TERRY glosses. I tried them a couple years ago, and every time I experiment with a less expensive line, I'm disappointed. You can either pay more and apply once, or pay less and apply multiple times throughout the day. Probably all comes out even in the wash. Gold Digger is pretty much universally flattering because of the warm pink undertones.

I broke down and bought this cult-favorite Baume de Rose lip protectant, but I bought it because Carmen told me that it makes ANY lip color you have look better. ANY. She is always right. (See what else she told me, too.) And then I realized it also makes your lips softer, too. It still amazes me that makeup can have skincare in it, that actually works.

3. Bronzer (budget-friendly!)

Bronzer is a must-have for those of us who are sun-phobic when it comes to exposing the face to the sun. Which should be every one of you reading this if you want to avoid sun damage and have prettier skin longer. Here's my budget-friendly pick!

I used this bronzer by Pixi, from Target, a few years ago and was so mad I didn't stockpile it because naturally they discontinued it. BUT IT'S BACK! Stock up now!

Warning: bronzer on the face looks silly if you don't swipe a touch of it on your neck and clavicle to avoid that weird-looking 2-tone contrast.

4. Nude & pink polish

nail polish

I'm one of those who doesn't do gel. My nails don't like it (and my hands don't like the UV rays). So I rarely get manicures because the polish doesn't stay on that long! But boy do I love those 3 days after a mani before the chipping sets in. I don't go for weird colors either. It's just not me. My rule of thumb is if I wouldn't wear the color on my lips, it doesn't go on my nails. Let's play, shall we? Black? Nope. Gray? Nope. Green? Nope. Pink? Yes. Plum? Yes. Coral? Yes. Red? Yes. See how that works?

If you have smaller hands or shorter fingers, a paler polish is a MUST to avoid looking like you have stumpy digits. PS I'm also not one for the pointy finger manicure; I still think the squoval shape is best.

One more tidbit...I had the most amazing pedicure of my life, a real European pedicure. (Thank you, Cherrie!)  He pulled out a pouch of tools that looked like a dentist's tools, or gardeners' tools.  Little scissors, little files, little blades and clippers.  And then for 2 hours he sculpted my feet.  I am not overstating it when I tell you all my shoes were significantly more comfortable, and not just in the toe box.  But my feet also looked so pretty when he was finished I hated covering up his artwork with an inappreciable shoe that treads dirty floors. As if! Anyway, since I learned that nail polish is the devil to our toes and fingers, I have been reluctant to wear it.  I need non-toxic polish, and cruelty-free would be nice, too. So here are three relatively safe brands of poison I mean polish you can take with you to the salon:
